A few of the scams that have been brought to my attention are:
Pay to get an interview:
There are people claiming to be from newspapers (from the classifieds) that are telling Job Seekers they can arrange interviews for them for a fee of R150.00. Please guys, no one can charge your for an interview! This is illegal! Do not fall for this.
And there are some recruitment companies that do this as well, they charge you an "admin fee" or a fee to check your ITC and criminal status. Again it is illegal to charge a candidate any fee! No matter how well known the agency might be, do not fall for this.
Paying for a professional CV:
Although I offer this service to Job Seekers wanting a professional CV. I charge R150.00 to redo a CV and include an eBook copy of my Job Seekers book "Your guide to successful employment"
But there are people out there charging over R500!
Please be very careful with this, I have heard of many people paying for this service and getting rubbish in return!
You can get a hint that its a scam by reading the advert and correspondence properly, if there are spelling and grammar mistakes then clearly the person offering this service is not very professional and intelligent. How can they provide you with a professional CV?
Always ask for references, samples, contact details, etc. Before paying such a large amount of money over to a stranger.
If you are aware of any other scams please do send me an email about it (jobzeeker@gmail.com)
