Writing an attractive cover letter

I have never been impressed by the standard cover letters, they have no motivation behind them, they basically just say “here is my CV for your job and I hope to hear from you”.

I have even received a cover letter stating that the candidate is desperate for employment as her child’s father refuses to pay child support and she is getting evicted from her apartment. Although I felt sorry for the candidate, it is not my problem, I am not going to employ someone just because they are desperate.

Never present yourself as desperate, it is depressing and gives negative vibes, and I know that if we do employ her all we will hear about is her personal problems! This is not professional.

Your cover letter is as important as your CV, your cover letter sells your CV, it entices the reader to want to read your CV.

A one-size fits all approach to your cover letter is a sure fire way to bore the reader. Companies want to know what specific skills you bring to the table and what skills you have that suite their requirements.

Read the advert carefully and when you apply for each different job you should revise your cover letter and list your attributes suitable to the position.
